星の金貨
What an old japanese drama I am watching..! (95 first shown in Japan). Now got the source and watched it thru VCD..
It is thought to be the first tv soap with the theme of disability people, namely the deaf and mute to take part as the main character. 酒井法子 [Sakai Noriko] was demonstrating great acting skill. She made her voice over at the last episode since she was writing a letter. But in the whole series she spoke in sign language, which took extra time to watch because of translation by another character (the nurse) or in writing (on a note book). Of course that give people a break in emotion, it may also represent the reality of how to communicate with disable people.
Politics within hospital, family affair, friendship, brother, love...9true love!) all relationships involved nearly. People seems to regret what they have been doing, making wrong choices.. but for sure, the dramatic effect of losing memory developed the whole tragedy out. The ending was unpredictable, which could changed by a single conversation by a character. Tension was strong for sure and it presented in such a dramatic attractive way.
The last 2 episodes were somehow added in all those crying elements. Each of the characters has to show up their crying faces, but the good way is, it's not exaggerated as those Korean soapy... (with a bit bias of Korean soapy in though).
There's a 2nd episode of it thought I don't have the source at the moment. There is a new series of the same title in 2001 with totally different characters and storyline. But those old j-drama was giving me a good memory of all those old days: young look on the famous actors nowadays (imagined 竹野内 豊 [Takenouchi Yutaka] 10 years ago); beautiful face of 酒井; also with the old mobile phone they are using...!
Such a classic to watch! ^_^
