First Night in Lunar New Year... sg

I got a small little break on Sunday, no work..!

Called my family... they are in high spirit, especially my grandma, not hearing good but still keen to talk about how happy she got her great grandson...! Wish you good health granny..!

The day, church, lunch and got back my room for siesta. Struggled to go out for dine or not after I woke up at 8pm.. Too late? too lazy..?! I decided to have a look with the 'dead city' in Chinese new year night so I went out..!

My plan was: jump in the first bus I ever saw and let it ride me to the terminal..
Ended up... I jumped on a bus no. 153, to Bukit Merah (Red Hill), a boring small local suburb with a bit of car retailer that sort of things...

Well, I have been to that place before by looking for a scooter, so that's not new to me...

The terrible thing, for sure, was to find a place to 'makan' (means eat).

It looked really dead... No live found... All people were evaporated..?!

Supermarket is closed, how can people buy their mandarin if they run out of him for visiting friends..?!

I saw the light, from the distance and went closer..! There's the place to eat, but that was the famous "Golden Arch" fast food store... :( I will never go there for the rest of this month for sure.. though the new year special bao wasn't too bad with the black pepper favour.. And then I found out another corner filled with people in there. A fast food store again, but in different cuisine..! That is an Indian store selling all those curry and prata sort of food.. such an exotic stuff to start my first new year meal..! I walked in and took my order, a meal and a blue berry lassi..! A bit spicy and hot but that was well covered with the good taste lassi..! Pretty contented when I walked out of the store and took the bus back to my room.
A new try out and a bit of adventure.. it's ok. A year without any red pocket...

1 more year to stay anyway, life goes on ^_^ Cheers!

Pre Chinese New Year in Sg -1

The strongest atmosphere place in Singapore is the China Town. But the way they celebrate is a bit difference than from HKG..!

1. People in Singapore or even in Malaysia bring 2 mandarins along to visit people as a gift so as to bring 'Gold' (Pronunciation of mandarin is the same as gold in Chinese) times two as fortune to the host. The host return another 2 mandarins to the visitors when they leave for a return gift of fortune.
The result: 2 mandarins keep swapping from families to families.... and you don't have to bring extra gift for the host at all! (that's what i thought about the meaning ba..?!)

2. Dry meat(肉乾) selling: it's a big industry here, especially in Chinese new year..! People Q-up long for that because it is a famous new year food they serve for visitors (not in HKG for sure!). Very dry and salty, but they indeed has some sweeter one taste like honey ham. Indeed it looks very much like a bacon..!

To be continued.........

the shoes shop - High heel - Cinderella - Fairy Tales

A Friday evening I walked around in a shopping arcade, finding one of the shops which is full of people... women indeed. This is a shoes shop.

High heel, the shoes that we were taught not to wear because of its shape and design which hurt your foot. But people still crazy about it..! The passion of finding the right colour, right design and most (or least?!) important - comfortable... Not that easy indeed. But they still staying in this small little shop, with extremely limited seats for picking up the right one. Maybe it is on sale, maybe it is pre-Chinese New Year.... well, you need to have an excuse for shopping? Not really! But how do you choose your ideal/dream pairs? Love in first sight?!

I have a second thought in looking at one of these pairs, how Cinderella being picked..?! The glass high heel suit in order to find her out for sure. But she must be loving it to wear it for the ball. Then the following occurs
1. Cinderella had a beautiful foot for showing off since the shoes are transparent.
2. The shoes was made by tempered glass so that they can withstand heavy weight and strong shearing force during dancing.
3. The glass high heels were light weight for dancing and run..! (well, it dropped during the escape..!)

Third thought: how do you defined a fairy tale (童話 in chinese)?! Like a classical song which has a background of middle age?! Only things like Snow White, Cinderella, Humpty Dumpty, 3 pigglets can be regarded as fairy tale? How about the modern age? No more fairy tale? You called Nardia as one? Too long possibly?! You called McMug a fairy tale? It's a comic character indeed..! You called Laputa, Totoru, Spirited away? They are more like long animation..! Is there any modern children story that could be regarded as fairy tale with good teaching and perhaps can be told as bedtime story? (Pls tell me as I haven't been hanged around the children corner in the library for ages..!)

Lastly, still wonder how dad can do bed-time story with Popeye in those old days..!

Thanks Dad! ^_^

The Dancing Floor and the Crazy Horse..

They are two unrelated things, one is the commercial adult show and the other is a reality TV shows (instant voting by phone call or SMS to determine results), but they are common in one thing - DANCING.

The unfortunate news is, The Crazy Horse was shut down on 31 Jan 07 due to poor turn out while the Dance Floor is having its rolled out in the same month on TV.

It might just be co-incidence that the 2 things happened in the same month. But is it really something about moral, ethics; free Vs $; or the easiness of attending to watch?

The Dance Floor as thought to be created in Singapore. But I couldn't stop thinking it is a modifying version of the American reality show "So you think you can dance'". The American one showing talent on individual dancers in versatile in different styles of dance whereas this local production are more team-work from different styles different people which make the judging difficult..

Moreover, this kind of reality show never show up figures on how many votes they got. There might be percentage, there might be proportion but I never heard of official numbers announced. The media did make a mis-count in vote once in last year Singapore Idol (for contestant Maltida be in wild card show). The reality is, the richest the people the higher the chance to get back in since there is no limitation in how many times you can vote.

Well, is just a commercial decision for sure. Don't be too manic about how that would reflects the reality of democratic voting ba...?! -_*
