Bruce Almighty

Bruce asked God, " How do you make so many people love you without affecting Free Will?"
God answered, "Heh, welcome to my world, son. If you come up with an answer to that one, let me know. "

That was the question that Bruce raised up to God when he got the power but felt helpless as failed to made up with his girl friend...

God responded with great humor in the movie. The old Christian gospel: He loves people so much by sending His son Jesus Christ to die for our sin. Looking forward to people turn back to Him. Indeed there are huge lots of thing that God cannot do: He cannot hate people, He cannot change 'free-will' inside people.

The movie is a comedy for sure, someone played God with superpower, splitting a bowl of soup into half as red sea and causing metoroid fall onto Earth..

One of the famous quote I like when God told Bruce: "Parting a soup is not a miracle, Bruce. It's a magic trick. A single mom who's working two jobs, and still finds time to take her son to soccer practice, that's a miracle. A teenager who says "no" to drugs and "yes" to an education, that's a miracle. People want me to do everything for them. What they don't realize is *they* have the power. You want to see a miracle, son? Be the miracle. "

The struggle came back again, what's the purpose of life. In Bruce's context, to became the anchor of the news channel, get rich and got his girl friend back....?

The part of answering prayers raised up an interesting point: what would the world looks like if everyone's prayer being answered as 'Yes'...!? Everyone got first price of lottery ticket and only got splited for $17. The city turned into chaos.

Morgan Freeman, with his humor, played the role of God. Would the director did have a thought in picking up this role by choosing an African American to play it in contrary to racism in the States?

I would say this as an alternate evangelical movie as letting people think about life and God.

Be the miracle, once you know the purpose of life..!

Looking forward to watch Evan Almighty which is still showing around..! ;p

Jesus Camp - the movie

It's been classified as R18 in Singapore, but it can be watched by all ages in youtube... >_<

It's a documentary from last year, took a whole year to be shown in Singapore and currently only showing in 1 cinema.

I have to state my religious view before commenting the film: from a conservative evangelical Baptist, which traditional as someone attending "a dead church." as one of the girl in the movie described people standing with hymn book mumbling... No speak in tongue but teachings and rely on God's word (the Bible).

The movie is about kids being bought into a summer camp once a year to be taught about Christianity. There were interviews with the kids pastor Becky Fisher, the kids, parents and the radio broadcaster Mike Papantonio.

It's controversial, as non believers would really questions what happened in the show: brain-washing kids with Christianity concepts, emotionally manipulating and propaganda. A conservative believer (me) would think is it necessary to push kids to speak in tongue, experience spiritual wash or fed them with concepts or issues that they might not understand...

I appreciated the method that the pastor demonstrated with toys and items (all these could be used in Sunday class indeed). The concept behind, to an extreme, seems to be adopted from how's Muslims taught their kids about faith or military countries trained child soldier to use gun. I am a bit reserve on this if things get up to a mental and emotion level especially with kids. Do they really know what they are doing? or experiencing? See Fisher comments in further readings.

I think of one of the animation I watched some years ago called Monster, there's a orphanage called 511 which trained orphans in new concepts to became a superhuman as Hitler...

How would those children grown up into?

It's always a reflection for conservative churches when seeing things happened in another way in others.

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
(The Bible KJV, Proverb 22:6)

ps. The woman sit next to me nearly raised up her arms when the screen showing kids praying for G Bush 'cut-out'... so interactive...! -_-!

Nodame Cantabile - 交響情人夢

An interesting Japanese drama full of classical music.

Originally adopted from manga and then being turned into TV drama and animation (it seems to be the golden rule of any popular Japanese comic for sell).

What is the selling point?

1. Love story
For sure, there are lots of possibilities, directions, dynamics, climax, resonances that were blended into the show which audience are greatly entertained. The 2 main characters (Nodame & Chiaki) with 2 extreme characters but shared a single common point: music. Things started to develop from admirer-idol relationship to an equivalent supporters, inspirers. All romantic elements were presented into dramatic settings. An other pair of lovers (the violinists) later became a supportive friendship which the show has been made to all age group viewers.

2. Classic music
Dramas with themes often bring things popular for a certain period of time. Would classic music be appreciated by more HK people? Here's a link that people would like to make a difference:
http://www.petitiononline.com/nodamehk/petition.html

The HK current drama has a theme about ballroom dance, let's see if that works as well..

Is there some other formulas that you have seen in the show? The disappear actor/actress would be such an coincidence as in classic dramas like "Love Generation" or "Hero". The actor and the actress found each others back in the hometown. The old trick always works...!?

Enjoy the show, esp the music...! ^^

Misty = smoggy..... -_-!

Look at me
I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree
Ah, I'm walkin' on a cloud
I can't understand, Lord
I'm misty holdin' your hand

Walk my way
And a thousand violins begin to play
Or it might be the sound of your "hello"
That music I hear, Lord
I'm misty the moment you're near

You can say that you're leadin' me on
But it's just what I want you to do
Don't ya notice how hopelessly I'm lost
That's why I'm followin' you

Ooh, on my own
Should I wander through this wonderland alone, now
Never knowin' my right foot from my left
My hat from my glove, Lord
I'm misty, and too much in love

You can say that you're leadin' me on
But it's just what I want you to do
Don't ya notice how hopelessly I'm lost
That's why I'm followin' you

Ooh, on my own
Should I wander through this wonderland alone, now
Never knowin' my right foot from my left
My hat from my glove, Lord
I'm misty, and too much in love

(Misty) too much in love
(Misty) too much in love
(Misty)
(Misty) too much in love...

by Ray Stevens

ps. could change lyrics to smoggy as the situation in HKG... ;p

Trailwalker 毅行者 by 蔡東豪

Just finished the book in in great speed, found out the power of the event... something more than charity fund-raising but a training of team-building, team-spirit, friendship, physical and mental abilities...

The book is good to show out a lot of people behind the event. Some people lives were being changed because they did learn a new aspect of living during the event. It's more than a simple hiking activities but something holy, extraordinary experience that one need to have.

The book started with stating the background of the event: a former Gurkhas training which lead to open enrollment in 1986.

Each chapter describes a person or a group of people who were involved in the event directly or indirectly. There were: old hiking store manager who cooks ginger tea every year at a check point, ex-volunteer army who works as an army to give aids, doctors from the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital who get changed from their gown to sport suits for training and helpings, a group of expats gathered every year from different part of the world just for the event.... The passion is so strong within them to the event that is repeating again and again every year.

Never mention the famous wining team: Sunhing cosmoboy by Mr. KK Chan (Mr. Trailwalker) which is composed from ordinary people but willing to go through tough training and aim to achieve goals. Their philosophy is wildly open to all people who like the event.

The only thing to say about the book is, there are few words describing people from the organiser: Oxfam. Possibly reader could find further reading in the homepage itself, but the event in 1997 (which they had to support the event alone) and the Y2k as they cancel the event due to bad weather condition that would be something to write on more...?!

This is a book full of passion on the event with heroes behind the scene. It is a great read for people who are interested in the event or newbies who want to know more..!

my 911....

It's something I cannot do.... (though I just know it 24 hours ago)

Being waken up by a loud stressful drilling noise (not existing the accepted Db, but just something that like happened next door continuously) as they are breaking down the wall of the work place that I am living in... It will take them a whole day to do the job.

Do they ever consider someone living nearby has to work overnight? Do they ever consider doing that while I am away instead of my working week..?

Feel helpless, very distress, sad... X_X

Something I might be able to do..? I think I better find somewhere to hide today..

Heart just sunken...

ps. les we forget the thing happened 6 years ago in NYC....

Back in Singapore

After 10 hours of flying and stopping, I finally touched down Singapore..

Sleep, eat and sleep, wait, and eat... that's what I did in the last 24 hours of flight. I would think it is at least a bit better than long direct flight which you got touched down the ground and slept horizontally on the waiting seats in the airport other than the plane..

Another 2-3 days off after the first night, seems very thoughtful from the company.!

Overall, it was a great meet-up with friends in the trip and I did enjoy their company very much.

Thanks R & M, surely H for the whole route planning! ^_^

(photo of my little teddy which I got from Kanazawa shopping centre catching machine..! I called it 金沢小熊 , it is cute but it cannot walk which was designed to with battery at the back.. -_-)

Anyway, check out the real info from San-X

day 9 back to Osaka

Ride the train from Sendai to Ueno as I continued my quest of finding the sport shoes...
Walked to the opposite direction when I got off the station pointed me to the biker stores. I missed my scooter in HKG but I didn't buy anything though..

Finally got back to the right way of this semi-old town. The streets next to the railway are full of people like Causeway Bay in Hong Kong. I finally reached the shop and finished my task.

Wandering around the railway line and that led me to the Ueno Park, where the zoo and the art centre, museum located. However, they were all about to close at time around 4:30pm... The park with some traditional shrines which the locals paid high respect of it. There were some statues also plated with some interesting stories around.

I finally moved my way to the famous Akihabara, the holy place of those 'train-man' otaku where they gathered and chasing stars..

People say I am one of them... maybe because I send longer time online than them and still like to play tv games... -_- But well, I still social around and meet people right?!

Surely I saw some typical otaku around, and some cosplay people, maiden dress ladies are those who giving out flyers for their restaurants or shops... I wasn't really looking for something but just feeling around the places and what people do... Finally got myself a CD...

Time to jump on the Shikansen and I got it on time because Tokyo station is such a big station and crowded with people..

The weather seems to settle a bit, possibly because all the clouds were moving north...

Final day tomorrow and I don't think I can update the blog until I got back to Singapore..
So, see ya all in Singapore then..

おわリ
